2013 Golden Rule Nomination Form

The Golden Rule Award is intended to honor those members of our community whose lives consistently demonstrate the fundamental characteristics that we desire and expect of everyone.  In all of their daily interactions, these persons embody the traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship, our Six Pillars of Character.  These outstanding individuals live out the principle, “Treat others as you would like to be treated”, and it is obvious to all.

The Golden Rule Award will be bestowed at three different levels – the individual, family and business.  In order to make a nomination, please review the criteria below and fill out the appropriate nomination form.

Recipient Criteria:


Individual Level 

•    Has consistently demonstrated the Six Pillars of Character through role modeling and personal interaction with all levels of our society.
•    Has worked diligently to make a positive contribution to family, friends, and                 community.
•    Is known to be living a life of high morals and good character, which is measured in accomplishments and in the company one keeps.
•    Exemplifies gratitude, compassion towards others, honesty, reliability, loyalty, caring, empathy, and generosity.

Family Level
    •    Same as the individual level above, but applicable to the majority of
        family members.
    •    Parents and extended family which have successfully motivated their children to                 practice the six pillars of character through the following: 


Communicate It – Successfully teach them the difference between right and wrong and guide their thoughts and actions by the Six Pillars of Character.  Help them             understand and practice that their success and happiness depends most on who             they are inside, not measuring themselves by their material possessions or physical             characteristics or using them against others.
Advocate It – Encourage commitment to and practice of the six pillars of character.             Be the character role model for your children to follow so they know that character is uncompromising, respectful, and fair.  Encourage good citizenship regardless of in or out of school.  Never be a bully, “Be the One” with character.
Reinforce It – Praise good behavior and discourage bad behavior by imposing fair,         consistent processes and procedures.  Demonstrate courage and firmness of will by            encouraging these core values even when it is difficult or costly to do so.

Exercise It – Treat others as you want to be treated.  Do what’s right, even when no one is looking.  Accept responsibility and do better.    

Business Level 
•    Same as the individual level above, but applicable to the owners and managers                 of a company.
•    Owners and managers which have successfully incorporated ethical decision                 making and the six pillars of character into the company structure:

Communicate It – Successfully teach employees how to apply the Six Pillars of             Character to business situations.  Help them show concern and compassion for their         customers and the community in general.
Advocate It – Encourage commitment to and practice of the Six Pillars of Character             Be the character role model for staff and other business leaders to follow so they             know that character is uncompromising, respectful, and fair.  Encourage good             citizenship.
Reinforce It – Praise good behavior and discourage bad behavior by imposing fair,         consistent processes and procedures.  Demonstrate courage and firmness of will by            encouraging these core values even when it is difficult or costly to do so.  Holds all             levels of employees to these standards.
Exercise It – Adheres to truth in marketing and sales – they perform the actions that         they proclaim to the public.  Does what’s right, even when no one is looking. Accept responsibility and do better.

Nomination Rules
    •    All nominations must be submitted by Midnight, September 29, 2013.
    •    The winners will be announced on November 1 2013, and the awards ceremony                   will be held on January 9, 2014. Location to be finalized.
    •    Please fill out one form for each nomination you wish to make.
